On the left a bust of Jan Matejko facing to the right. On the right a logo of Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, and above it a year: 1818. In the background a stylised image of the griffin from the dome of the Academy’s main building. At the top an inscription: 200-LECIE, on the right a perpendicular inscription: AKADEMII SZTUK PIĘKNYCH; and at the lower part, partly against the portrait, an inscription: IM. JANA MATEJKI / W KRAKOWIE.
